What Book Are You Excited to Read?

I just came across this post from the Bulldog Readers Blog.

It's about one of Kirby Larson's latest books:  Duke.

http://www.kirbylarson.com/books/duke/

I am excited to read it because Kirby Larson wrote one of my favorite books: Hattie Big Sky.

She writes about history, and I really enjoy history related stories. Kirby has also written other notable books about animals and their remarkable stories. You should look for her books in the library to see what I mean.

And, believe it or not, Kirby Larson was a student at Sunnyland! She came here for second grade.

I'd love to hear from you, too. What books are you excited about reading and why? Please share with us!

  1. This week I finished reading a very long book, A Game of Thrones! It was 805 pages long! This is the first book in the Song of Fire and Ice book series. Instead of chapters this book is segmented into short stories from the perspective of different characters. I found it really interesting to read a book that was written this way, but sometimes it was hard to wait for my favorite characters next story. I'm really excited to start the next book in the series, A Clash of Kings. Wish me luck, it's even longer!

I will wish you luck. How can something be longer than 808 pages, ouch?

  2. Dogs have been evolutionarily adapted to protect and befriend humankind; it's incredibly heartwarming to read these types of novels. Every little child should have consistent contact with our canine friends, they positively influence growth much more than people think!

Be the person your dog thinks you are.

  3. I am excited to read To Kill A Mockingbird. It is a classic book and one of my favorites of all time. When I was a kid my dad, used to read to us every night. He would use different voices for each character, which was totally cool. It is also the first movie I clearly watching with my Dad.

  4. Thanks for sharing! I am always happy to learn about authors and good books to read. I will have to check out some books by that author. That is really neat that Kirby Larson was a student at SunnyLand. I love finding out fun facts like that about the books I am reading.

I am currently reading a book called Heroic Efforts The Emotional Culture of Search and Rescue volunteers. This book is actually written by my professor Jennifer Lois. It is really interesting to be reading about her experiences being a search and rescue volunteer. I am very much enjoying reading it.

    1. Dear Jesica,
That book sounds interesting and exciting and almost like a behind the scenes book. I think I’ll have to check it out.

  5. Kirby Larson is actually a friend of mine! She was one of the people who encouraged me to start reading as an elementary school student. Kirby recommended a bunch of books for me and even helped me write some short stories of my own. I loved Hattie Big Sky and am planning to read the sequel soon.

I am currently working my way through a new series that begins with the novel "The Selection" by Kiera Cass. It is about a group of girls who compete to be a prince's wife. It's kind of like the TV show The Bachelor. If you liked "The Hunger Games" but you're looking for less death and more ballgowns and girl talk, this is the book for you! I just finished the second one ("The Elite") and can't wait for the last one to be published in a few days!!

    1. Dear Becky,
That sounds like a great book! I recently finished a book called Peter and the Starcatchers. It is like a prequel to Peter Pan, and I thought it was amazing! If you like that perfect mix between action and fairytale, this book is for you. This is one of my favorite parts that I will share with you to give you an idea of what it’s like: “Peter blinked his eyes, but there was no mistaking. The rat was suspended In midair, as if hanging from a string, but there was no string.”
Peter and the Starcatchers was a great book, and I am waiting for the next book to be available to me.

    2. I LOVED Peter and the Starcatchers! That was one of my favorite books in high school! After I read it, I found a website called "whatshouldireadnext.com" where you can put in a book you love and it will tell you what else you might like! If you love reading and want to find similar books to the ones you've finished, it's definitely a great website. I found a couple of books that way that I absolutely adore. Keep reading!!

  6. One of my favorite books/series I’m reading is “This Isn’t What It Looks Like” the Secret Series. It’s one of my favorites. With 501 pages. Can I read it in one week? If I read this one I need to read the fifth and last one “You Have to Stop This” (But they don’t have the fifth one in the library).

  7. Dear Megan,
I do wish you luck. It is a long book. A very long book to be exact. I give you a challenge can you read it in one week? If you can I would be surprised with that long of that interesting book. Oh I wish you luck if you do use the challenge you’d probably be hooked, so it wouldn’t be long.

  8. Dear class,
A book series I really encourage you to read and it is called chasing yesterday. It is a really good book series. It is about a young woman who was in an explosion and she does not remember anything. Not even her name! When I read the first page I was hooked into the book like the book was mind controlling me to read the book. I heard about this book series from Tori. I’m still on the first book but it is really good. I hope you guys get a chance to read it.

  9. Dear everyone,
I’m right now reading a book that my mom read when she was my age. Its name is A Wrinkle in Time. It’s a book that I just started reading. There are a few words I don’t know but I completely understand what’s going on in the book. My mom spoiled the secret about the book. It’s about a girl and her little brother who goes back in time to save their father.
