Spring Break

This year, my Spring Break was pretty exciting. It wasn't because I went on a special trip or that I did anything particularly fun. It was exciting because my wife and I were anticipating the birth of our second child, and we had no idea when it would arrive. Due to this, we stayed close to home and spent a good amount of time with Luna and getting the house ready for new baby. It's amazing how much stuff a new, little baby needs. She has to have tiny diapers, a small, snuggly place to sleep, comfy hats to keep her little head warm, safe toys for her to play with, books for mom, dad, and Luna to read to her (of course), and many other things. I  enjoyed greatly my time with Luna. While we were away from school, we played outside, worked in the garden, visited the library, and made blueberry pancakes from scratch. I am including a few pictures from the week and a few more pictures of baby Grace. I hope you like them. I also hope you're having fun with Mrs. B. and that you are making excellent learning choices.

Be Good Humans.

Love,
Mr. Pahl

These are sand dollar tracks in the water at low tide. Do you see the big "c shape" in the middle of the picture? There is a sand dollar at the top part of the "c." On this day at Semiahmoo Spit, we found sand dollars everywhere.

This is a dead ray that had washed up on shore.

Luna was ecstatic to run and play in the water. She also enjoyed looking for crabs and sand dollars.

Semiahmoo is a fantastic place for bird watching. Today we spotted gulls, bald eagles, cormorants, and many different kinds of ducks.

Luna digs in the garden daily. Here she is on the hunt for worms.

Helping daddy plant basil seeds.

Baby Grace's last check up today before leaving the hospital. The doctor said she looked and sounded great.

Grace was happy to hear the news.

Heading home.

Ahhh. Content to be home finally and resting on mommy.

  1. Dear Mr. Pahl,
I really liked the pictures you took of the beach, Luna, and Grace. You must be having a great time with them in the day, but the night is a different story.

  2. Dear Mr. Pahl,

That washed up ray picture is pretty neat. When my grandma’s friend Willie in the Philippines finishes her house I’m going to go to the Philippines, and maybe I’ll see a ray there if Willie’s house is by the beach.

  4. Hi Shark Fin,

I'm glad to know you like the pictures. I enjoyed taking them. You're right. I am having a lot of fun with baby Grace, but she doesn't sleep much at night. She likes to eat almost every hour! Last night we actually got almost 4 hours of sleep. Hopefully we start to get more than that!

  7. Hi Superstar,

R U still using texting spelling in your comments? What is with that? :-) Remember that new babies don't have a very strong immune system, so schools can be kind of dangerous for them. I will probably bring her in May or June once she has time to get stronger. Until then, I promise to show you lots of pictures. I'm not sure when Luna will be in again, but we can try to work something out. She still talks about her time "at daddy's school with the big kids." She had a lot of fun with you. Thanks for writing!

I’m glad that you had a great spring break. I did not do much this spring break all I did was go shopping with my mom. In spring break I was planning to go to California but we didn’t because my brother didn’t have spring break yet.

I like babies because they are small and they are small and easier to carry then 25 pounds. Also they have little laughs and they could bring great joy to you.

  15. Dear Mr. Pahl,
Something memorable about my Spring Break is, going to the pacific science center. I went there with my dad. My favorite part was the star wars exhibit and the millennium falcon. They had a little show with C-3PO droid. Also, they had robots like R2-D2 I got to put wheels on it and make it move around a little course. I liked how they had a hover craft that span around in circles.

    Firewolf

  21. Hi Superstar,
I'm guessing you meant Mowhawk. Grace has a lot more hair than Luna did. It wouldn't have been possible to give her a Mowhawk as a baby. I guess we could try it now if she would let us. What do you think? Should I ask her?

  22. Thank you Rockstar, Puppy Dogs, Jenny, and Sillyband!
We are having a lot fun with Grace. She is becoming a little more alert and active every day. She still isn't sleeping much though. I will put up more pictures soon, but like I said before, I won't be bringing her in until May or June when her immune system is stronger. I'd hate for her to get sick at such a young age.
    Take care,
    Mr. Pahl

  23. Hi Little Animal,
I'm sorry you didn't get to go to California. I hope you do get to travel there sometime soon. Did you know that I am from California? I was born in a city called Oxnard which is near Los Angeles. Where were you going to go?

  24. Dear Bugman,
The beach we visited was at Semiahmoo. It is a great place to go and watch birds and see lots of other sea life. In the post, I talked about all the animals we saw. In the past, I have seen seals and sea lions at this beach, too.

I am so excited to hear that you went to the Pacific Science Center! Many people have shared with me that the Star Wars exhibit is fantastic! It sounds like you really liked it, too. Did they have an actual hovercraft? That's great! Hopefully I will get to check it out before it's over.

  26. Hello Dragonstar,

I went to Semiahmoo which is about 30 minutes north of Bellingham. That is the only picture I have of the ray. I doubt it is still there. I bet you could do some searching on the web and find more interesting pictures and information about rays if you wanted to.

  27. Hi Lilly,

I'm glad to hear you liked the pictures. Yes, I'm really happy to have another girl. I would have been happy with a boy, too. It really didn't matter to me. I know Luna is excited to have a little sister. Have a good day, Lilly.

  28. Hi Bullvole,

I would love for Grace to meet you, too. I hope we can handle having two kids as well! :-) I don't think it will be a problem, but it sure is a lot of work. Babies don't sleep much in the beginning. That is probably the most difficult thing right now. Something else that is tough is that babies can't talk. When they cry, we have to try and figure out why the baby is crying. Usually it is because they are hungry or need to have a diaper changed, but even when we take care of those needs, the baby still cries. We just have to be patient and hold her to let her know that she is loved and she is safe. Thanks for writing!
