“Learning to code makes kids feel empowered, creative, and confident. If we want our young women to retain these traits into adulthood, a great option is to expose them to computer programming in their youth.“ -Susan Wojcicki, Senior Vice President, Google
What Is Computer Science?
Computer science develops students’ computational and critical thinking skills and shows them how to create, not simply use, new technologies. This fundamental knowledge is needed to prepare students for the 21st century, regardless of their ultimate field of study or occupation. “I think everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.” -Steve Jobs, founder of Apple
Anyone can learn to code...
“Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.” -Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft
Okay, I'm interested. Tell me more. What's this all about? What's the big deal, anyway?

Mr. Paul and I have been friends since we were little kids
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Pahl
I like the hour of code because it teaches me to get the zombie to the sun flower and the bird to the pig
Liam
Dear Liam,
DeleteI agree with you for trying to get the zombie to the sunflower and the bird to the pig. The last level was very hard trying to get the zombie to the sunflower. It was really fun but very tricky, but sometimes, you just have to try and never give up. Just try and try until you make it to the end. Just never tell yourself that you can’t do it, think positively. You can always do it if you just try.
From,
Kyle
Dear Liam,
DeleteI agree with you taking the bird to the pig is very fun.
From Benjamin,
Dear Mr. Pahl,
ReplyDeleteI think this program is a good program so it will help are brains actually work for something instead of just dragging the action verbs around without even doing anything with it or thinking about it. I also like because it is fun and we have more science. I love science even computer science.
Sincerely, Evyn
Hi Evyn,
DeleteI love it, too! Thanks for sharing your thinking.
Mr. Pahl
Dear students,
ReplyDeleteI think we did a good job when we were helping other kids when they needed help and I know that was tough because I needed help to and believe me the plants vs. zombie it was hard
I think that its very inspiring that anyone can do it
ReplyDeleteBy: Jackson
Dear Jackson,
DeleteYou are right that it is inspiring that anyone can do it. That makes it so everyone can do it and they have videos to help them also.
From Silas
Dear Mr. Pahl,
DeleteI agree that the hour of code is exciting. I like to do the holiday card because you can use sprites and back rounds to make them come to life. This is on The Hour of Code Scratch
From, Silas.
Dear Mr. pahl,
ReplyDeleteI think the hour of code is great for us it’s difficult to im, super excited to use it again I just can’t wait!
Sincerely Danny
Hi Danny,
DeleteIt's great that you are so excited. I hope you enjoyed it!
From,
Mr. Pahl
Dear fourth graders,
ReplyDeleteAfter I watched the video I really knew that no madder what job you want to have codding will help.
Sincerely,
Neri
Dear Neri,
DeleteI agree with you because if you want to create video games you have to know code.
Sincerely, Tim
Dear Tim,
DeleteYeah. Even if you want to be a doctor or you want to work at McDonald’s coding will make it a tiny bit easier. Well maybe not so much with working at McDonald’s.
Sincerely,
Neri :)
Dear Neri,
DeleteI agree that no matter what job you have codding well always help because if you are a teacher then codding can help. If you are a Liberian codding can help.
From Kayden,
I think the hour of code is grate because you can make your video games and play them on the computer from Brian.
ReplyDeleteThe hour of code is fun because that game that we were playing the angry birds and the plants vs. zombies were fun but my favorite game was the angry birds game from Brian.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Pahl
ReplyDeleteI like the Hour of Code because you can make your own video games. After that you can move on to the more complicated PC technology kind of like an engineer.
From Elijah :)
Dear Mr. Pahl I just really think sometimes that I am just so lucky to go to school and to be able to type the story that I am writing rite now. I just love long division, two time multiplication, typing, and reading. I’m just really trying to tell you that I just love school. Great Wishes, Hannah.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Pahl,
ReplyDeleteI think that it is important that kids learn how to code because what if someone wants to make a video game they would have learn code. I think that it would be easier to learn now because when you are older I would think that it would harder to process it. Right ?
From Cam
ReplyDeleteDear 4th graders,
I agree everyone should do the hour of code I even stayed after school just so I could do it. The hour of code helped me so it might Help YOU!
